Choosing the right hardware can be complex and
time consuming. At GCC innova we've been buying servers for 20
years, we've seen the trends, read the hype and got the badge!
Trust us to use this experience to help you install reliable
solutions that work all day every day.
Servers are everywhere these days. They can help you manage
files and printers, host a mail server, better secure your company
network, and generally do more for you than a desktop can. However,
knowing that you need a server and actually getting the right one
are two different things. Contact us now for help and advice - click here
Tower Servers - are ideal for small, remote or
branch office environments and offer maximum in-chassis flexibility
and all-inclusive server / storage solutions
Rack Servers - are ideal for larger offices,
typically with a server room and an IT rack or two. Ideal for use
with external storage, they offer maximum computing power in a
space-saving format.
Blade Servers - designed for larger capacity
computing, again with external storage, blades offer the maximum
computing power in space, power and cooling saving designs
Features to look for
|
 |
| When deciding which
server is right for your environment, these features are important
considerations: |
 |
| • |
Assess hard disk space needs by evaluating how much
data you have now and how much data you create monthly. Consider a
server that allows you to add additional drives as your needs
change. |
| • |
Software manufacturers will list "required" and
"recommended" memory. When possible, buy enough memory to support
at least the current recommended amount for each
application. |
| • |
If your server will be used in a mission-critical
environment you will need to support at least RAID (Redundant Array
of Inexpensive Disks) Level 1 which writes data across two or more
drives so data is not lost if any drive on the system fails. |
| • |
Simplify server management with tools such as HP
Insight Manger, Integrated Lights-Out, SmartStart, and ProLiant
Essentials. |
| • |
HP's pre-failure warranty, standard on all HP
ProLiant 300 servers and above, extends HP's standard one or
three-year warranty to cover critical components like memory before
they actually fail. |
 |
New advances in technology
|
 |
| • |
Hyper-Threading technology available on Intel Xeon
processors makes a single processor look like two processors to the
operating system, making twice as many resources available to
service threads. |
| • |
HP offers three levels of Advanced Memory
Protection that provide increased fault tolerance for applications
requiring higher levels of availability:
 |
 |
• |
Online Spare Memory: Protects against single-bit
errors and entire DRAM failure by reserving some memory as
"spare". |
 |
• |
Hot Plug Mirrored Memory: Provides full protection
against single-bit and multi-bit errors by writing the same data to
two sets of memory but only actively using one. |
 |
• |
Hot Plug RAID Memory: Allows the memory subsystem
to operate continuously, even in the event of a complete memory
device failure. |
